ORHS Course Selection Information
Parents of the ORHS Class of 2028,
ORHS is so excited to begin the process of helping your student choose courses for their first year of high school! This is such an exciting (yet often anxious) time for both students and parents. Our goal is to help make the process informative and user-friendly. Your ORHS Counselors are willing and ready to help walk you through the process over the next few weeks.
Below you will find the timeline for the course selection process. Keep this document somewhere safe to refer to as needed. You will also receive email reminders throughout this process.
Cohort 2028 Course Registration Timeline
Before we meet with your student, we are offering two Zoom parent sessions to introduce you to the process of selecting courses for high school. If you’re not able to join one of these sessions, a recorded version will be emailed out following the live sessions. The below sessions will be identical.

We would also love for both you and your student to join us at the Academic Showcase on Wednesday, 1/24, from 5:00-6:30 PM. This will be held at the ORHS Senior Campus. You can park in the front entrance parking lot or in the student parking lot (athletic/fine arts entrance). The flyer for the Academic Showcase is attached. This is a come and go event that allows you to talk with teachers of our different academic departments about all the courses offered at ORHS. There will also be clubs and organizations represented for your student to learn more about.
Another key thing to look for on the timeline happens on 1/22/24. You will receive an automated email from Naviance to register for a Naviance parent account. You will receive detailed instructions prior to this automated email. Naviance is a program used by ORHS for students to create their 4-year plan which is where they will also choose their classes for 9th grade. We will review this process in the Parent Zoom sessions.
The course selection process for high school can be a lot to digest and keep track of. Here are your key takeaways with this initial email:
1. Keep the timeline somewhere safe to refer back to.
2. Make sure to join a Parent Zoom session (or watch for the email of the recorded version).
3. Keep an eye out for the instructions/automated email for the Naviance parent account on 1/22/24.
4. Join us at the Academic Showcase 1/24/24.
